Big Charity Day raises £8,000

Local charities as well as the Afghanistan Fund will benefit from more than £8,000 raised by the people from the Welshpool at the weekend.

The final pennies are still being counted, but Saturday’s event at Maesydre attracted up to 600 people who enjoyed some of the best local talent and entertainment around.

Organised by Harry Gannon and Paul Rogers in association with the Montgomeryshire branch of the Parachute Regiment, the event proved to be an overwhelming success despite the weather which is playing havoc on the summer.

“Despite the weather, we attracted up to 600 people and on behalf of the organisers I would like to thank those who came and enjoyed the day,” said Mr Gannon, who explained that the final amounts for the chosen causes would be decided once the organising committee has met next.

Formerly called as the Help for Heroes Day, organisers decided to change the causes it supports having decided that it had become so well-funded nationally.
