Play safe this summer (if it ever comes)

10/07/2012 @ 01:06

Clubs, organisations, parents and children are being urged to take care this summer when organising or taking part in recreational activity across the Welshpool area.

Last summer’s tragedy when a popular youngster lost his life after a goal collapsed in Caersws brought the issue to the fore and local residents are asked to be careful.

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “Organisations responsible for goalposts or playground equipment such as Football Clubs, Caravan Sites, Public Houses, Town Councils and Recreation Associations are being reminded of their duty to ensure that all equipment provided is safe for use and maintained in a safe condition. There is a wide range of guidance available on this subject which some organisations may not be aware of or may just find confusing.”

Powys is holding a free drop in session where organisations can obtain information and advice on all aspects of goal post and playground safety. There is no need to book, just turn upWelshpool’s Council Chamber, Neuadd Maldwyn on July 30 from 10am-3pm
