MP to meet local dairy farmers

13/07/2012 @ 01:15

A meeting has been arranged by NFU Cymru for Montgomeryshire MP, Glyn Davies, to listen to farmers’ concerns over the impact of recent crippling milk price cuts on the dairy sector.

Mr Davies will meet with NFU Cymru on Monday and he will offer farmers an opportunity to have their say about the urgent changes needed to resolve the problems in the dairy supply chain and to help safeguard the industry’s future.

NFU Cymru Montgomeryshire Vice-Chairman Jonathan Wilkinson said: “Never has there been a more critical time for the dairy sector. I urge as many members as possible to attend and impress on our local MP the need for a robust code of practice and fair contracts for milk producers.

“The meeting will also serve to update NFU Cymru members what it is the Union is seeking to achieve and the timetable that we’ve set for processors and retailers in terms of restoring the price cuts and of course the consequences of not doing so.”

The meeting is scheduled to start at 10.30am on Monday, 16 July 2012, at Welshpool Market.
