New top cop ma’am

20/07/2012 @ 09:23

Superintendent Pam Kelly is the new woman in charge of local territorial policing for both Carmarthenshire and Powys.

An officer with the force for the past 18 years, this new role will see her widen her experience and put into play skills that have been honed with periods spent working in public protection, CID and on the front line.

“The majority of my career to date has been spent in CID, investigating serious, organised and major crime. So becoming the Superintendent in charge of front line policing is a new and a slightly different challenge.

“Thankfully in Dyfed Powys, the majority of residents are not affected by high levels of crime, however, whenever crime happens whether it be serious crime or nuisance crime, it has a significant impact on the community-it’s my job to ensure that we as a police service do our utmost to protect the public, investigate crimes thoroughly and to bring as many offenders as possible to justice.

“I am passionate about policing and I am privileged to be the Local Territorial Commander for Carmarthenshire and Powys. Both counties present very different crime challenges but I am confident that together with our very supportive community and excellent partners we can continue to follow the trend of lowering crime levels and levels of re-offending.”

Superintendent Kelly’s counterpart in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion is Superintendent Ian John, and both report to head of territorial policing, Chief Superintendent Steve Hughson.
