Praise for Dyfed Powys Police

29/07/2012 @ 01:53

Police in Dyfed Powys and therir bosses have been praised for helping to prepare for the appointment of the force's first ever Police & Crime Commissioner.

Independent inspectors have praised Dyfed Powys Police Authority and the Force for the work its preparation work carrying out to prepare for the first ever Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC), who will replace the Authority in November, this year.

In its report ‘Preparing for Police & Crime Commissioners’, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies (HMIC), said Dyfed Powys Police Authority has successfully continued to deliver its day to day duties, while putting together ‘sound plans’ for its transition strategy.

Chair of Dyfed Powys Police Authority, Gwyn Hopkins, said: “I hope people will be reassured by today’s report that recognises that the Authority is working closely with the Force to ensure the transition to the PCC runs as smoothly as possible in the Dyfed Powys area.

“The introduction of a PCC is one of the biggest changes to the way the police is scrutinised in almost 200 years and we are dealing with many unprecedented and complex challenges.

“However, the independent Inspectors have confirmed that we are up to the task and we have made much positive progress but we know there is still a lot of work to do and we will continue to keep apace ensuring the Authority leaves a positive legacy for the new PCC.

“The success of the progress so far is down to the hard work and dedication of all those in the Authority and the Force who are committed to safeguarding our communities in mid and west Wales, and providing them with a first class policing service.”
