Council head volunteers 30% pay cut

07/08/2012 @ 12:45

The new head of Powys County Council has declined a whopping £47,500 salary in favour of a near 30% lighter pay packet of £34,500.

Cllr David Jones, who represents Guilsfield, is one of a number of senior councillors to ask for a lower salary with Berriew’s David Davies, Banw’s Myfanwy Alexander and Llandrinio’s Richard Brown taking £24,500 instead of the £28,780 they are entitled to as portfolio holders.

The details of payments made to members and co-opted members by Powys County Council have been published on the county council’s web site (link below). The schedule sets out the salaries, allowances and fees that will be paid during the 2012/2013 financial year under regulations set out by the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales.

The report shows that county councillors, of which Welshpool has three, will each receive an annual basic salary of £13,175. It also shows that councillors can claim up to £403 a month for childcare and 45p a mile for using their car on official business for the first 10,000 miles.
