Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (45)
An entry of 45 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold very well to average 134ppkg for the cows, 154ppkg for the bulls and 157ppkg for the under 72month old heifers. A Limousin cow weighing 843kg achieved a top price of £1382.52 from H & S Watkins Cammen Uchaf. Another Limousin cow from J & M Cherry made £1321.72. Bulls topped at £1430.66 for a Charolais bull weighing 929kg from T G Bennett & Co Neuadd. H & S Watkins Cammen Ucha receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (12)
Only 12 fat heifers forward for sale today, selling to a very good average of 217ppkg. S M Rowlands Dolwen sold two Limousin heifers to 230ppkg and 227ppkg. G W & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf sold four heifers to 229ppkg, 228ppkg and 226pppkg (x2). S M Rowlands Dolwen receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately12.30pm. An entry of 5215 Prime lambs, selling to an overall average of 177.7ppkg.
Super Lights (Up to 25.4kg) (26) to 258ppkg from AJ & JC Daniel Abergwydol Farm. Average of 200ppkg.
Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (605) to 194ppkg from S H Lloyd Penlan. Others to 186ppkg from W T Jones & Co Caerberllan. Average of 173ppkg.
Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1521) to 211ppkg from RG & JL Peate Cwmderw. Others to 199ppkg from E H Pennie & Son Gwern y Ychain. Average of 177ppkg.
Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2467) to 199ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Others to 195ppkg from D R Owen & Son Sandilands. Average of 178ppkg. 
Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (493) to 181ppkg from D R Owen & Son Sandilands. Others to 179ppkg from D R Oliver Tirdu. Average of 168ppkg. 
Over Weights (Over 52kg) (31) to 171ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Others to 168ppkg from RE & EJ Rowlands Tycam. Average of 156ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (4360)
An entry of 4360cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £52.47 for the ewes and £95.29 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £123 per head from D T A Williams Upper Bolbro. Top price for the cull rams was £150 per head from EW & KE Benbow Ffrydd Farm. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.    
 
STORE LAMBS & IN LAMB EWES
A good entry of 233 store lambs entering the market this week, with mixed and clean lambs selling to £59.80 from B L Griffiths Lower Penygelli while Charollaisx tup lambs from F R Williams Cefn Canol sold to £60. More Store Lambs required next week as shown by a large number of buyers.
An entry of 104 store ewes entering the market this week with Texelx yearling ewes from J H Hockenhull selling to £122 Hardy full mouth suffolx ewes from J E Turner Gethin Farm sold to £73. More Store Lambs and Bredding ewes required next week. Sale to commence to 10.30am.
 
COWS AND CALVES
An entry of 70 cows and calves including 50 cows and calves and in calf cows from I Evans & Son Hendreseifion met with an excellent trade. Part of a genuine herd dispersal having given up the tenacy at Tryal Bach Llanon the sale of mainly British Bluex and Limousinx cows with British Blue calves at foot, met with a trade the cattle deserved. For the first time at Welshpool Market a commercial cow and calf made over £3000 with a 2004 born British Blue cow with a Limousin heifer calf making £3380. A 2006 Limousinx Cow with a British Bluex heifer calf sold at £2800. A British Bluex cow with a Limousinx bull calf at foot sold for £2200. A total of 11 spring calving outfits made of £2000 with 23 spring calves averaging £1916. 10 In calf cows with November/December 2011 born calves at foot were sold separately in the ring with a top of £2530 as a combined total, for a British Bluex cow with a limousin bull calf. A Limousinx cow with a Bazadaine bull calf sold for a combined total of £2370. A 2008 born cow in calf to a British Blue bull due in November sold for £1850. 12 weanlings born autumn 2011 sold to a top of £930 to average £785.
D P Evans Moelygarth sold three Limousinx 1st Calvers with two bulls and one heifer calf for £2380, £2100 and £1800. Presented by JBC Gwillym Bwlchgarth were six cows and calves selling to a top of £1720 for British Bluex 1st calver with a Blonde heifer calf at foot, and averaging £1488 overall. D A Williams Tanyclawdd Frochas sold two Limousinx 1st Calvers with bull calves for £1700 and £1650. IG & TM Beckett The Woodlands sold for £1900. I P Jones Penygriag Darowen sold a 2008 Pure bred Limousin Stock Bull for £2450. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows:
2500+ 5 lots, £2000 - £2500 15 lots, £1800 - £2000 7lots, £1600 -£1800 16lots, £1400 -£1600 8 lots, £1200 - £1400 8 lots, less than £1200 7lots.
