The sun shone with 4500 people attending Saturday’s action-packed Llanfyllin Show as people flocked to the popular annual event from across the country.

Organisers of the event, known as the “friendly show”, reported that the car park was full by 2pm, as showgoers continued to stream into the Bodfach Hall park showground until around 5pm.

“We are all delighted with the increased attendance and the many positive comments that we’ve received about this year’s show programme,” said show chairman Bethan Jones. “Fortunately, the sun came out and we could not have wished for a better day.

“The show is a fantastic place for friends to meet up and share the country way of life with people who live in towns and cities. It takes a huge community effort to stage the show every year and we are lucky in Llanfyllin to have such a hardworking and dedicated committee.”

Star attractions were the freestyle mountain bike stunt team Savage Skills from Clun and Mordor Gundogs, an international training school for future gundogs and their owners from Perthshire, who each gave two shows in the main show ring during the day.

Popular newcomers this year were a Taste the Origin cookery theatre and Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure, designed to celebrate quality local food and drink products and to encourage children to think about what they are eating.

Newtown Silver Band helped to keep people entertained on the Village Green while the 2012 Royal Welsh Lamb Shearing Circuit Final brought together the 20 best sheep shearers in Wales in four different classes. The overall winner was Gareth Daniel from Machynlleth.

The shearing competitions attracted fifty competitors from all over Wales who sheared more than 1,000 sheep. Open winner was Gareth Daniel from Machynlleth who also won the All Wales Lamb Circuit Shearing Final. The Senior competition was won by Llion Hughes from Penybontfawr.

The busy sheep section attracted 50 competitors. More shire horses were on display this year and good entries were reported in the horses, sheepdog trials, dog show and goats section.
