Top A-Level grade results fall slightly

16/08/2012 @ 12:28

Students in Montgomeryshire are celebrating today with another year of great A-level results - although top grades have fallen.

Powys has mirrored the national trend with a lower number of passes at grade A* and A compared to last year, but grades A* - C and A* - E are significantly higher than in recent years, according to Powys County Council, which says is "significantly higher" than Wales as a whole.

More than five out of every 10 results (51 per cent) were at grades A*, A and B, with five per cent at grade A* and a further 19 per cent at grade A. According to the council, almost everyone who took an A-level in Powys passed (99 per cent).

Stephen Rogers, Powys County Council's Head of Schools, said: "These are excellent results clearly reflect the dedication and hard work of pupils and teachers in Powys schools. Our warm congratulations go to all the young people on their well deserved achievements and to all those who have supported them throughout their school careers.  We wish all the students every success for the future."
