Mending Maesydre a success

22/08/2012 @ 09:52

Sunday sent out a serious message to the Welshpool area that it’s troubled Primary School is on the mend.

Past and present pupils, parents, staff, Governors and friends of the school spent the day giving it a spruce up.

Sleeves were rolled up with doors, window frames, picnic benches and the mobile class room enjoying a coat or two of paint while the wall in the main yard underwent a transformation to provide an eye catching centre piece for visitors.

“We were overwhelmed with the response and with what we achieved in such a small amount of time,” said Terry Ingram, Governor. “Everybody got involved in what was a fantastic day for the school. The paint and materials were given by Kaye Derwas of Derwas of Welshpool and we would also like to thank Phil Harris for his support.”

But following a tough couple of years which resulted in a damning Inspection Report last year, Mr Ingram admits that Sunday was about much more than just a paintjob.

“We all need to pull together to mend Maesydre’s reputation,” he said. “It has been a tough couple of years but days like Sunday show that the community can pull together in a positive way.

“We had entire families working on doors and windows, and pupils who will be with us in September came down with their parents to lend a hand at their new school. The work is not finished yet though, we intend to complete this first phase before the new term starts in September and then announce another ‘Love Your School’ Day after that for phase two. We want our school to look the part. We want the outside of the building to mirror the great strides being taken inside the building.”

“Maesydre’s future is much brighter.”
