Oldford set for huge celebration

28/09/2010 @ 04:27

Oldford Communities First is organising a huge cultural celebration next year and is calling for all residents to play their part.

The event will take place in February and celebrate nationalities and cultures from across the world from national dress to folk dance; and from cuisine to crafts. And the stars of the show will be the local population!

Organisers are appealing for the people of Welshpool to get involved.

“In order to make the day as fun packed and varied as possible we need the help from the local population,” said Sophie Pert, Communities First Administrator: “We’d love local people to share their special talents, cultural heritage and knowledge with us and their neighbours.”

Communities First has made the following appeal for volunteers and participants:

-          Do you have recipes from around the world that are easy to make and affordable - perhaps your national dish or your family favourite?
-          Are you a musician who is willing to perform and share your cultural music or display an unusual instrument?
-          Can you perform your national dance or show off your national dress?
-          Are you a crafty person who would like to show us some cultural crafts?
-          Would you like to showcase your music and dance talent or would you like to read us some national poetry?
-          We would also love to hear from you if you have an unusual artefact that you could lend us for an exhibition.

If you would like to get involved, contact the Communities First team on 01938 556648.
