12/09/2012 @ 04:24

Powis Castle will host a charity antiques roadshow to raise funds for vital conservation work.

A team of experts will be at the Castle on Thursday, September 20 from 6pm to 8pm with a charge of £1 will be made for each item valued.

Fine director Jeremy Lamond will lead a team of four experts from Shrewsbury-based Halls and is encouraging people living from the Welshpool area to search their attics and storerooms for forgotten treasures that might be worth a fortune. The experts will value ceramics, furniture, works of art, paintings, silver, toys, books, militaria, jewellery, coins, sporting items and textiles.

“If they have items that are too big to bring along on the day, they can simply show us photographs or we will be happy to arrange home visits after the event at no additional charge,” he said. “In the past, we have discovered many valuable items in the Welshpool area that have been stored away.”

The event will be staged in the Annexe at Powis Castle, where the restaurant will be selling refreshments and the shop will offering a 10 per cent discount on items for the night. Castle staff will also be on hand in the Ballroom to give free advice on caring for antiques.

Kathryn Pollock, Powis Castle’s retail manager said: “Powis Castle and Garden is known for its superb collection of treasures from across the world, so it would be really exciting to see if a new treasure can be discovered within the local community.”
