Welshpool golf professional Lee Rooke has returned from Bulgaria after finishing second in a top PGA tournament.
With the Ryder Cup just days away, Rooke enjoyed his own slice of European success at the UniCredit 2012 PGA Professional Championship of Europe, pocketing a runners-up cheque for more than £4,000 in the process.
And it could have been more but for champion Hugo Santos of Portugal sinking a 20-foot putt on the last to clinch the title.
Rooke (pictured) finished nine-under, a shot behind Santos who won for a second consecutive year after four competitive rounds on the Pravets Golf Resort and Spa, near Sofia.
Rooke is a professional at the Vale of Llangollen Golf Club and has enjoyed a decent summer on the satellite Tour, making 17 cuts from 19 starts. He qualified for Bulgaria by winning the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship Regional Qualifier in Southport back in May.
There is still plenty to come for Rooke who has secured a spot in the final of the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship to be held in Mexico in December after winning the qualifier with partner Nick Jones. He knows the Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun well as it was his honeymoon destination back in 2005!
