Council hails Tourist Centre success

Welshpool Town Council has celebrated three years since taking charge of the town’s Tourist Centre by hailing it as a “tremendous transformation”.

The ailing centre was threatened with closure under Powys County Council cuts before the town council stepped in and says it has made it more profitable and increased the range of services provided.

Cllr John Morgan said: “It is a jewel in the crown of the Town Council to be able to offer such a good centre which brings so much to the Town.”

And Cllr John Corfield, who is Chair of the Council Services Committee, added: “The Tourist Information Centre is an important part of the town and its tourism base, we are proud to be a part of that.”

As well as a full tourist information service, the centre offers National Express tickets, Owens Coach Tours, Sabrina and Tanat Valley tours, refreshments, local information, fishing licences and more.

The Town Clerk oversees the centre, but the day to day running is done by the ladies lead by Wendy Lewis.
