Dyfed-Powys Police said it has not scaled down the search for missing April Jones (right) but concedes there are no new developments to report.
Some media have turned to speculative reporting that resources were being cut back the hunt for the five-year-old nears two weeks since she was taken.
But police insist this is not the case but concede they face a tricky dilemma in trying to keep the story high on the news agenda with little new information to share.
A spokesperson said: “We want to clarify some of the media reporting this morning that gave the impression that the search for April Jones was scaling down – this is not the case.
“While the searches continue it is difficult to provide any further detailed information, we appreciate that you (the media) are keen to keep the story high on the news agenda and we are doing what we can to provide you with new information, however this can be quite difficult. The force is committed to continuing the search until we have completed the planned work and have exhausted all lines of enquiry. We may not be able to provide daily updates, but please be assured work continues apace.”
Mark Bridger, 46, has appeared in court twice charged with suspected murder and abduction of a child. He was arrested the day after April went missing.
