Christmas is coming!

16/10/2012 @ 05:14

It’s been an astonishing year of events for Welshpool and plans are in place for it to reach a fun-packed finale.

The Olympic Torch, Jubilee celebrations, The Tour of Britain and high profile music concerts, comedy clubs and festivals have all contributed to a year to remember with something for everyone on most weekends of the year.

And with the cold weather and dark evenings upon us, attention is turning towards Christmas and a Festival is planned to ensure the period kicks off in style.

“Welshpool has hosted some very high profile events this year so we felt it important to let people know early what is planned to get Christmas underway,” said a Town Council spokesperson.

And there will be a touch of local celebrity to the Switching on of the Lights this year with Adele Nicoll, the young throwing sensation, having the honour of flicking the switch at 7pm on November 30.

Welshpool Town Council would like to invite you to join the Christmas Lights parade and, if you would like to get into the Christmas Spirit by dressing in Fancy Dress.

Starting from the Tourist Information Centre at 6.45pm, the parade will be led by The Newtown Youth Band and make its way to the refurbished Town Hall. Prior to that, a Fancy Dress competition with three age categories will be judged at the TIC.

Santa will be special guest with youngsters having the chance to meet him at inside the Market Village with the Corn Exchange open for teas, coffee & mince pies. Community Groups and Charities are invited to take a stall.

The opening evening will be followed by the Winter Festival on December 1 when the Christmas Street Market will be held from 10am-4pm. The following day, a Carol Service in the Corn Exchange at 3pm will continue to get us all in the spirit.
