A new music accreditation scheme ‘The Cerdd Powys Music Tutors Accreditation Scheme’ has been launched by Powys County Council.
Created in line with the aims of the Powys Children and Young People’s Music Strategy 2010-2015, the Accreditation Scheme is a mark of quality assurance, giving music tutors in Powys the chance to be recognised for their high standard of contribution to instrumental music tuition in schools and the community throughout Powys.
All Accredited Tutors have been assessed through an interview process in which they were observed teaching, involved in a discussion on various music teaching and child protection issues and performed on their chosen instruments.
Gareth Jones, Education Officer for Powys County Council, explained: “The Accreditation Scheme is a welcome support structure, through which music tutors will deliver an increasingly high standard of instrumental music tuition for our children and young people in Powys.
“Since the demise of the county managed Music Service in the late 1990's the tutors have operated through a number of uncoordinated arrangements as well as outstanding structured organisations such as North and South Powys Youth Music. The new scheme will allow them to build on the excellent service that they are already providing to the children and young people of Powys”.
The Scheme is an optional service for music tutors; it offers tutors the chance to work even more closely together to provide more consistent instrumental music provision across the geographical ranges of Powys.
