Powys County Council has objected to plans for a 35km overhead cable to be routed through the Severn Valley.
Plans were discussed for the scheme, which proposed nearly 400 wooden poles to be erected to carry the 132kV line from a windfarm at Llandinam to the substation in Welshpool.
But a Powys insider has told us that councillors have recommended the plan be scrapped with their comments to be forwarded to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, which makes the final decision.
Montgomeryshire is in the midst of a fight against plans for a £60m energy project to be erected through the Banwy Valley with a substation at Cefn Coch.
