There’s been some confusion over the new rubbish collections, as the council’s fortnightly system was met by uncertainty caused by mistakes in its initial marketing material.
Households across north Montgomeryshire have been warned about the new system for months, with recycling still to be done weekly but the new wheelie bins for general rubbish to be collected fortnightly.
The system was introduced six weeks ago in Welshpool and yet some streets are still putting out their wheelie bins weekly for collection. And the introduction to Guilsfield was made more confusing on Friday by the council accidentally sending out the wrong timetable before resending the correct information.
Nevertheless, black wheelie bins were left out uncollected all day as some residents claimed not to have received the corrected version or believed they had been sent the same information twice and threw the second batch in the recycling.
A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “Unfortunately some households in Guilsfield were issued with the incorrect collection calendar when the wheeled bins were delivered. To avoid any confusion a flyer was distributed to all affected households informing them of this error which asked them to rip up the incorrect calendar and place it in their recycling container for collection.
“A new calendar was then provided showing the correct collection weeks for households to keep for reference. We apologise for this error and any inconvenience this may have caused.”
