Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (65)

An entry of 65 over Thirty Month Cattle sold to average 102ppkg for the 53 cows, 134ppkg for the 3 bulls, and 148ppkg and 149ppkg for the heifer and steers under 72 months respectively. The older cows topped the sale at £1069.20 for a British Bluex cow weighing 810kg from RP & SE Wilde Middle Sylfaen. RE & EJ Rowlands Tycam presented a Limousin cow weighing 698kg to £1060.96.A Charolais bull from J R Evans Brynderwen sold for £1480.92. A British Blue bull under 72 months sold for £1591.98. RP & SE Wilde Middle Sylfaen receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (7)

Only seven fat heifers, Steers and bulls presented today, selling to average 181ppkg for the steers, 189ppkg for the heifers and 162ppkg for the bulls. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold four fat Limousinx  heifers and steers to 214ppkg, 196ppkg, 184ppkg and 180ppkg. Two fat bulls from D E Wozencraft Mynydd Llys made 167ppkg and 158ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewydd receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately12.30pm. An entry of 4791 Prime lambs presented for sale on Monday 5th November, sold to an overall average of 149.9ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (300) to 141ppkg from J G Ellis & Son Tynewydd. Others to 140ppkg from RJT & GE Jones Penwtra. Average of 132ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1008) to 173ppkg from F J Jones Bryncwmnant. Others to 163ppkg from T C Evans 10 Heritage Green. Average of 141ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2090) to 176ppkg from D G Jones Cefnhir Fawr. Others to 175ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Average of 155ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (1129) to 169ppkg from G & M Lewis Caenymynydd. Others to 167ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Average of 152ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (148) to 147ppkg from T & B Williams Cil Mawr. Others to 145ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Average of 141ppkg.

 

CULL EWE (2682)

An entry of 2682 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £37.81 for the ewes and £65.13 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £108 per head from RE & L Jones Farchwel. Top price for the cull rams was £ 275per head from DO & VM Gethin Pencoed. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.    

 

STORE LAMBS & IN LAMB EWES

An entry of 1400 store lambs achieving an overall average of £43. Theave lambs achieving a top price of £53 from M Morgan Red House. Mixed and clean lambs achieved a top price of £64 from Cefn Coed Farms Coed Y Parc. Wether lambs achieved a top price of £58 from J & R Davies Old Hall. Tup Lambs achieved a top price of £88 from M Pugh Gilfach. Mixed and Clean lambs achieved a top price of £45. Theave and tup lambs achieved a top price of £57 from D R Pryce Llancowrid Farm.

Store Lamb Competition. The annual store lamb competition was very kindly sponsored by Alan Brick of H J Lea Oakes Ltd. This year judge was Mr Tom Jones Dolwen who awarded the 1st prizefor the best pen of Texelx lambs to Cefn Coed Farms and where bought by D G Pugh & Co The Birches. 1st Prize for the best pen of other breeds was awarded to John Lloyd Hendre for Suffolk mixed and clean lambs purchased by Mike Rowlands Dolwen.

Store Ewes.

An entry of 439 breeding ewes. Top price for the yearling ewes was £120 from I M Evans & Son Sarn Farm. Ewe lambs achieved a top price of £88 from D & G Andrew Lower Bryn y Groes. Sale of Store lambs to commence promptly at 11am to be immediately followed by the sale of Store Ewes and Ewe Lambs.

  

DAIRY COWS

An entry of 15 dairy cattle met with an easier trade than a fortnight ago, but nevertheless was a fair reflection for the cattle on offer. Top price of the day was a 2nd calver a Winston Stormatic daughter from K S Jones & Son Lane Farm which made £2040. From the same home were tow Dragon heifers which made £1890 and £1790. Two regan crest Diehard heifers from GM & U Thomas Bwlchgraig sold for £1830 and £1800. Three cows from R N Thompson Oak Green Farm sold from £1580 nd £1880. PA & JM & Astley Cefn Farm sold a heifer for £1880. A Shottle daughter from WA & EM Morris Maestanyglwyden made £1780. A breakdown of all prices achieved where as follows: £2000+ 1 lot, £1800 - £2000 5 lots, £1600 - £1800 6 lots, £1400 - £1600 1 lot, less than £1400 2 lots.

The British Berrichon In Lamb Ewe Sale

 

The British Berrichon Female In Lamb Ewe sale took place at Welshpool Livestock Sales and where in very strong demand with over 21 buyers present for the 90 sheep on offer. Lot 226 of the yearling ewes peaked at 630gns from H M Shakespeare Walnut Tree Farm selling to R Powell, Springwood Lodge, Kelso, Roxburghshire. The Aged ewes peaked at 315gns from D J Gwynne Partnership 6 Creigiau Cottages Talgarth and wassold onto F L Jones Fferm Pontrobert.

The Ewe Lambs topped at £315 from T C Stayt 9 Burtons Bank Church Westcote, which was purchased by P Harkness Windrush Farming Partnership Keresforth Hawe.

The Tregwynt shield for the highest average price of three In Lamb ewes from one owner went to H M Shakespeare Walnut Tree Farm who sold a consignment of 8 aged ewes and 12 yearlings selling to a top price of £600 for a yearling ewe and sold to average of £292.50.

Charollais In Lamb Ewes Sale Saturday 3rd November 2012

 

Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a successful sale of Pedigree Charolais In Lamb Ewes on Saturday 3rd November 2012.

 

Of the 116 catalogue ewes, 87 ewes where forward resulting on 58 ewes or 67% being sold. The show was judged by Samule Tindall Linton Spring FarmWetherby and the results where as follows:
