Have say on Council Tax reduction

11/12/2012 @ 10:38

You can make your views known now on the proposed new Council Tax Reduction Scheme to be introduced in April.

Powys County Council has been tasked to run the new scheme on behalf of the Welsh Government who have allowed the council to have discretion over certain elements of the new scheme.

Cabinet Member for Finance, Councillor Dai Davies explained: “Some 11,000 households in Powys currently receive Council Tax Benefit but the UK government is stopping this benefit from April 2013.  In its place they are introducing the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

“Under the regulations, we do have certain discretionary powers relating to war pensions, extending entitlement periods and for backdating claims. It is these issues on which we are particularly keen to hear individuals’ and organisations’ views.”

The questionnaire is available at www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay. If you would prefer a paper copy, these can be collected from local libraries or the council’s Customer Service Points. The closing date for responses is January 11.

Earlier this year, the Welsh Government consulted with people in Wales on the main elements of the new scheme.
