Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (54)

54 Over Thirty Month old cattle sold today to average 119ppkg for the older cows, 137ppkg for the bull, 171ppkg and 141ppkg for the heifers and steers under 48 months respectively. A Limousin Cow weighing 790kg from T & B Williams Cil Mawr sold to a top market price of £1311.40. CJ Davies & Son Waen Gwyn also sold a Limousin cow for £1118.64. A Charolais cow 48 to 72 months achieved £1065.96 from J E Evans & Son Middle Nanserth. T & B Williams Cilmawr receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (6)

Only 12 fat cattle on offer today sold to average 203ppkg for the heifers and 161ppkg for the bulls. DW & L Jones Arbennig sold four heifers, selling to a top price of 210ppkg for a Limousin weighing 514kg. D E Wosencraft Mynydd Llys sold two Charolais bulls to a top price of 162ppkg. DW & L Jones Arbennig receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo beast sold on the day.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25.4kg) (220) to 134ppkg from CP & VM Andrew & Son Bronfedw. Average of 123ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (1535) to 148ppkg from A E Morgan & Son Cincoed. Others to 145ppkg from C Jones Lletygwilym Uchaf. Average of 135ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (2514) to 166ppkg from E P Hughes The Porth. Others to 164ppkg from E & D Jones Lluestwen. Average of 142ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (3003) to 186ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Others to 177ppkg from EO &VJ Roberts Cefn Coed. Average of 154ppkg.

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (841) to 161ppkg from E A Marston New House. Others to 154ppkg from H Hghes Hendy. Average of 140ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (137) to 134ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Others to 132ppkg from R M Evans New House. Average of 127ppkg.

CULL EWE (3248)

An entry of 3248 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £39.75 for the ewes and £55.70 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £129 per head from TD & MJ Orrells & Son Middle Llegodig. Top price for the cull rams was £108 per head from TR & ME Watkin Glanbechan. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.

STORE LAMBS & STORE EWES

An entry of 530 Store lambs with generally more hill breeds and smaller lambs put forward. Better quality lambs met with a faster trade. Theave lambs achieving a top price for texelx lambs of £60.50 from M H Pugh Gilfach. Mixed and Clean lambs achieving a top price of £55.80 for Welsh lambs from CE & GT Davies Derwen. Wether lambs achieving a top price of 354 for Clun lambs from H J Marsh Stokesay Castle Farm. Tup lambs achieving top price of £53 fro suffolks from T M Davies Wynnstay Farm. Sale to commence next Monday as usual at 10.30am. Also next Monday 13 IN lambs Suffolk ewes, Sale to commence straight after the sale of Store Lambs.

COWS & CALVES

A seasonal entry of 14 cows and calves met with a similar trade. Top price was £1960 for a Belgian Bluex 2^nd calver with a bull calf from W I Jones & Son Cilcwm Fawr, whilst a Limousinx 1^st calver with a heifer calf from the same home sold for £1700. four Limousinx st calvers from D P Evans Moelygarth sold to a top of £1820 to average £1605. J B C Gwilym Bwlchgarth sold a Belgian Bluex 1^st Calver and a Limousinx 1^st claver with bull calves at foot for 31450 and £1410. J E Jones & Son Chirbury Hall sold a Pedigree Hereford breeding bull for £1900. A Breakdown of the prices achieved are as follows: £1800+ 4 lots, £1600 - £1800 1 lot, £1400 - £1600 3 lots, £1200 - £1400 3 lots, less than £1200 2 lots.

STORE CATTLE:

The Catalogue sale of 100 store cattle took place at Welshpool Livestock Sales on Monday 10^th December 2012. Steers averaged 207ppkg and Heifers 185ppkg.
