Local residents are invited to join the latest initiative to transform a stretch of the Montgomery Canal.
The invitation is for residents to return this Friday from 10.30am to 3pm to help litter pick, paint and clear vegetation along with the Friends of the Montgomery Canal.
The day will see the team clean up the local stretch of canal and continue the great restoration work they started last time, which included repairing and painting the railings adjacent to the canal in the centre of Welshpool.
Paul Corner from Glandŵr Cymru said: “We’ve seen a massive rise in volunteering over the last four years and we want to provide easy opportunities for people to turn up to with no previous experience, meet existing volunteers and learn about other opportunities to get involved. We have volunteers from all walks of life who donate their time to us to get some exercise and help keep their local waterside community looking tidy because they recognise how important North Wales and Borders’ canals and rivers are.”
If you are interested, simply turn up at Welshpool Wharf before 10.30am in suitable clothing. For more information, contact Sarah Burns, Canal & River Trust at sarah.burns@canalrivertrust.org.uk / T: 07766 504270.
