Welshpool will be switched on to lightning quick broadband, following a considerable investment by a local firm promising up to a 100Mbps service by the end of January.
Wireless specialist broadband provider, eXwavia, which is based at Glansevern, Berriew, is currently fine tuning its new broadcast transmitter on Long Mountain which will go live in January - two years ahead of Government targets.
Further broadcasts points at Llandinam and Llanrhaeadr will mean that the 4Mbps – 100Mbps service will reach over 27,000 households and over 3000 businesses in north Powys.
Another company, Airband (http://www.airband.co/), has been linking Guilsfield and other villages in the area to super quick broadband over the past year with startling results and feedback from its new customers.
“Broadband is at the heart of our daily lives both at home and in our businesses,” says Annette Burgess, Managing Director of eXwavia (left). “Great broadband is a utility that we should all have access to.”
And the good news is that the Welsh Government backed Broadband Support Scheme is still available for those suffering with speeds of less than 2Mbps. It means that a vast chunk of the set-up costs are covered by a grant.
Annette added: “The Broadband Support Scheme from the Welsh Government is a great initiative. The grant is there to help communities, individuals, businesses and third sector groups enable great broadband delivery.”
Russell George, AM, Montgomeryshire, said: “I am thrilled for the residents and businesses in the local communities. They have waited a long time for fast broadband and I know they are extremely grateful to eXwavia for delivering so efficiently.”
