The allotment saga entered a new phase this morning when the Town Council met with Powys County Council in a bid to find suitable land.
The issue has rumbled on for the last three years with councillors having 18 sites rejected for a variety of reasons. And following the recent decision not to adopt land on the Golfa Bank for the project, a decision was made to turn to Powys for help.
“We have not washed our hands on the issue; far from it,” insisted Town Clerk Robert Robinson. “The council passed a resolution at the last meeting that we will liaise with Powys County Council to ask them to find something suitable and that has been followed up today with a face-to-face meeting.
“We are confident of finding a solution and will continue to work with all parties concerned to resolve the matter once and for all. If a site is available and suitable to the Allotments Association then we would be happy to manage it on their behalf.”
The Town Council has also said that they will not be subsidising allotments.
