‘We will fight to get Montgomeryshire back’

Montgomeryshire’s Conservative MP, Glyn Davies, will face a fight at the next general election to retain his seat, according to the local Liberal Democrat party.

Mr Davies swooped to power in dramatic fashion by overturning a big Lib Dem majority held by Lembit Opik, and has since spearheaded the fight on big local issues including the controversial wind farm debate.

But the National Lib Dems office is drawing up its election batlegrounds and has targeted the area as a seat they will aggressively look to reclaim at the next election. It comes in the wake of a poor recent showing from the party in the national polls where it has fallen into fourth spot behind UKIP.

Rob Harper, Chairman of Montgomeryshire Liberal Democrats, said: “The National Lib Dem Party has decided that this is a Constituency they will fight to win back in 2015 and we will be selecting a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in the near future.”

Mr Harper was speaking in relation to the party’s upcoming Annual Dinner which is being held at The Henllan at Llangyniew, near Welshpool on February 22. Tickets are priced £20 per person from the Liberal Office on Park Street, Newtown or by calling 01686 625527. The guest speaker will be former Montgomeryshire MP Lord Carlile of Berriew CBE, QC.
