Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (35)

A reduced entry of Over Thirty Month Cattle sold to an overall average 142ppkg. The older cows sold to average 136ppkg, bulls 168ppkg, Younger cows between 48 months and 72months averaged 135ppkg and steers and heifers averaged 158ppkg and 184ppkg respectively. Top price of the day was £1369.71 for a British Blue cow weighing 801kg from DW & L Jones Arbennig. A Limousin cow weighing 778kg from A Love Rownal sold for £1268.14. G Jones & Son sold a Limousin bull weighing 1235kg and achieved £2074.80. The younger cows sold to a top price of £1047.46 for a Limousin weighing 631kg from JL & GM Edwards & Son Llyswen. DW & L Jones Arbennig receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (9)

Only nine fat heifers sold today to average 223ppkg. Four fat heifers from GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf sold to 247ppkg, 239ppkg, 234pppkg and 228ppkg. EE & MJ Jones & Sons Cwmbychan sold four heifers to 228ppkg, 223ppkg, 208ppkg and 200ppkg and from AL & J Jones & Son Tanybwlch was a Limousin achieving 208ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. An entry of 4483 Prime Hoggets, sold to an overall average of 199.5ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25.4kg) (55) to 159ppkg from M V Wall Emporium Cottage. Average of 155ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (222) to 200ppkg from J Jerman Cloddiau Farm. Others to 188ppkg from R L Owen Tanycoed. Average of 172ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (977) to 225ppkg from A I Watkins MAesywennol. Others to 218ppkg from E Jackson Lane Farm. Average of 193ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1668) to 248ppkg from A J Powell Llwynmawr Mill. Others to 230ppkg from R Richards & Co Maenllengen. Average of 204ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (1130) to 206ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm and T G Davies Home Farm. Others to 204ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son Belanddu. Average of 185ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (295) to 182ppkg from M P BAshton & Son Belanddu. Others to 178ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Average of 166ppkg.

CULL EWE (1875)

An entry of 1875 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £40.95 for the ewes and £56.71 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £118 per head from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Top price for the cull rams was £101 per head from C M Francis Hollybank. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.

STORE LAMBS

An entry of 470 store lambs achieving an average of £40. Theave lambs achieving a top price of £56.50 from FM & SA Thomas & Son Frongoch. Mixed and Clean lambs achieved a top of £65 from GH & CA Jones & Son Brynmawr. Whether Lambs achieved a top price of £56.50 from CE & R Emberton Coedtafol. Tup lambs achieved a top price of £55.20 from G Owen Cwm Farm. Mixed and tup lambs achieved a top price of  £50.50 from I Meredith Esgairwndwn.

An entry of 143 cade lambs achieved an average of £10 and making a top price of £19 from JM & IM Lewis Erwbarf.

A special entry of 70 suffolkx In lamb ewe lambs achieved a top price of £90 from FG & G Muntford Middle Heldre. In Lamb two year old ewes achieving a top price of £96 from R E Jones Gelli. Three Year old ewes achieving a top price of £88 and as found ewes achieving a top of £63 also from R E Jones Gelli. A good entry of ewes with lambs at foot achieved a top price of £142 from J O Evans Parcypwll.

More Expected next Monday 18th March. Sale of Store lambs to commence at 10.30, with the sale of In Lamb ewes, couples and cade lambs to follow.

DAIRY COWS

A catalogue sale of 13 Dairy Cattle sold to a good consistent trade. Competitive bidding was seen on all cows and heifers. A good entry of 8 pedigree Holstein Friesian 1st calvers from T G Phillips & Co Burgedin Farm sold to average £1720 and selling to a top of £1960 for a Netaway Pilot sired heifer. A Priddbwll Roxstar sired heifers achieved £1500 from the same home. R & R Corfield & Co Bronynant sold  Hafesp Million Elizabeth 3 to £1930. Mike Williams Wern Farm sold two second calvers to £1730 and £1500. Next Sale of Dairy cows will take place on Monday 25th March.
