The Welsh rugby team has certainly made this a manageable Monday for once and in keeping with our sporting mood today, Powys County Council has announced a major cash boost for local grass roots sport.
The council has confirmed a cash pot of £100,000 is available for this financial year, and local clubs are urged to send in their applications to grab a slice.
Welshpool Ladies Hockey Club and the town’s cricket club have already benefited with cash grants to assist their development programmes, and there’s plenty more left in the pot.
“Sports and physical activity groups can receive grants up to £1,500 to help contribute to creating thriving clubs which will continue to create opportunities through good enterprise and innovation,” said a council spokesperson.
“In addition, clubs and organisations have the opportunity to apply for an additional £1,500 to target key areas like improving participation and tackling inequality and social inclusion.”
The grants are available through the Sportlot Community Chest, the Sports Council for Wales National Lottery funded grant aid scheme which is designed to make a difference to sport and physical activity locally.
