Welshpool Town Council has rubber stamped an historic Order that will ban dogs from large areas of the town.
The full council last night (Wednesday) approved a recommendation from a working committee to implement Dog Control Orders, and has vowed to vigorously enforce them in a bid to clampdown a fouling problems.
So from now on, the following areas have banned dogs completely:
All children’s playgrounds
The Memorial Gardens
Skateboard Park
Maesydre sports grounds
Dol Y Felin grounds
At the new Brookfield Road development, dogs will be banned from the football pitch but allowed on the remainder of the land. On the new Country Park, which will be open this summer near the Flash, dogs will be allowed on leads.
Some dog owners complained that they were all being punished for the careless actions of the minority, and a working group will be set up by the Town Clerk, including dog walkers, to work out a programme of education along with a Dog Charter.
