Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (16)

Sixteen over thirty month old cattle sold to average 135ppkg for the older cows, 130ppkg for the younger cows and 176ppkg for the heifers. A Limousin cow weighing 728kg sold to a top price of £1186.64 from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. A Charolais cow weighing 760kg from H E Davies & Co Brynuchel Isaf. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. We will be holding a sale for TB Tested over thirty Month cattle from Monday 8th April at 9am in ring 2. FAT CATTLE (15)

An entry of 15 fat cattle sold very well to average 219ppkg overall. Heifers topped at 258ppkg for a Limousin weighing 562kg from GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf which was bought by Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool. GW & BA Haynes also sold other heifers to 257ppkg, 252ppkg and 247ppkg. Steers topped at 240ppkg from Evans Brothers Tynewydd who also sold other steers to 238ppkg, 231ppkg, 229ppkg and 225ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday commence at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. An entry of 3751 Prime Hoggets, sold to an overall average of 197ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25.4kg) (33) to 165ppkg from I R B Bebb Frrid Cowny. Average of 154ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (320) to 217ppkg from W G Jones Cwmduggan. Others to 197ppkg from C L Gale Isycoed. Average of 188ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (803) to 221ppkg from G J E Hughes & Son Old House. Others to 210ppkg from S J Smith Penybryn. Average of 191ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1228) to 225ppkg from C J & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Others to 222ppkg from R Lewis Tynypistyll. Average of 202ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (754) to 204ppkg from JR, RM & JP Andrew Bronheulog & R E Evans & Son Dinnant. Others to 203ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son Belanddu. Average of 192ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (374) to 184ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son Belanddu. Others to 183ppkg from E L Evans Derlwyn. Average of 172ppkg.

 

SPRING LAMBS (31)

An entry of Spring Lambs, sold to an overall average of 246ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (11) to 276ppkg from P & CE Davies The Crest. Others to 262pkg from M J Williams Pontyperson. Average of 244ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2) to 260ppkg from P & CE Davies The Crest. Average of 257ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (14) to 213ppkg from J A Hamer Upper Glynbrochan. Average of 212ppkg.  

 

CULL EWE (1677)

An entry of 1677 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £56.80 for the ewes and £67.93 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £128per head from E L Evans & Co The Green. Top price for the cull rams was £113 per head from GL, JS & A Howells Shadog Farm. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.    

 

STORE LAMBS

An entry of 150 store lambs sold to a sharp trade. Better meated lambs in demand and selling to £66 from M E Thomas Felincoed for Ewe Lambs.

Couples.

Couples were generally harder sold with the slow grass growth being the main reason. Top price was £205 for three year old texel ewes with twin lambs at foot from TP & DE Pryce Timber Yard.

Cade Lambs.

Only 130 lambs forward. Sold to average £8.50, selling to a top of £22.

 

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 5 cows and calves met with a steadier trade, with less people around the ring due to lambing and the weather. AS & EM Goolden & Sons Cilbach sold a Limousinx 1st Calver with a Charolais cow and bul calf for £1500. Two Limousinx 1st calvers with Limousinx calves at foot from J B C Gwillim Bwlchgarth made £1350 and £1340. M E Lloyd Gate Farm sold a Simmentalx 3rd Calver with a Bull calf for £1300. Next Sale of cows and Calves will take place on Monday 15th April 2013.
