No Homebase for Welshpool

03/04/2013 @ 12:05

Homebase have joined Aldi in saying they have no plans to open in Welshpool as rumours mount about the vacant Co-op premises on Berriew Street.

Workers have been inside the large building which has stood empty since Co-op called it a day last year.

Last month, Aldi said it wasn’t for them and today Homebase, who were rumoured to be extending their reach into the town, have also said no. Their nearest shop is in Oswestry.

“Homebase can confirm that there are no plans to open a store in Welshpool at this time,” said a company spokesperson.

A town council insider told us that they believed a “low budget supermarket” was moving in. We have also contacted Lidl but have not received a reply to date.

Last week MyWelshpool revealed that more than one third of Berriew Street was empty, so shoppers are waiting eagerly to see what is on the way to fill the town's vacant premises.
