O2 says sorry for mobile glitch

Communications giant 02 has apologised to thousands of residents in the Welshpool area who have been without mobile coverage for almost a week.

But the company says it is currently doing everything it can to have the service fully restored for the weekend.

The problems started on Sunday when a mast located in Welshpool developed problems resulting in many customers having difficulty making and receiving calls in the surrounding area.

An engineer visited the site and discovered that some cabling would need to be replaced which was ordered. But the company says that the weather conditions prevented a further visit to the site until today (Friday).

An O2 spokesperson told us: “Our mast in Welshpool needed replacement cables and after weather conditions impacted a visit to fix the problem earlier this week, an engineer is visiting the site today to replace the damaged cable. We’d like to apologise to any of our customers who may be affected.”

The previous week, Orange customers reported problems to the network following the heavy snow falls.
