O2 back on line but MP leads backlash

Users of the O2 mobile network appear to be back on line today (Sunday) after a week of being left with no connection due to a cabling fault at its Welshpool mast.

The problem was detected on March 31, but it has taken the communications giant a week to fix after admitting that the weather had hampered access to the fault all week.

It hasn’t gone down well with local users, with MP Glyn Davies leading the backlash and vowing not to renew his contract with the company.

“I appear to have my mobile signal back at home (Berriew) and apologies to those who have been unable to reach me over the past week,” said Mr Davies. “It’s too late for O2, when my contract runs out I’m off elsewhere. Like a lot of users, I’m sick of being treated like the past week and being told lies about when it is going to be fixed – just to get you off the phone when complaining.”

We were inundated with complaints from readers, prompting us to contact O2 on Friday who apologised for the delay in fixing the fault.

One Guilsfield user said: “It’s the last straw. I have spoken to them many times in the past already about their poor coverage in Guilsfield in particular and they keep fobbing me off with ‘this and that’ excuse and promising it will get better. Well it hasn’t and after this latest episode, I am off!”
