Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (35)

An entry of 35 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold to average 138ppkg for the 16 older cows sold, 153ppkg for the 11 younger cows, 159ppkg for the bulls, and 192ppkg and 172ppkg for the Steers and Heifers respectively. A Friesian Cow topped the Sale at £1175.30 she weighed 805kg and was sold by GM & PE Jones & Son Maesderw. GM & PE Jones also sold a younger Friesian cow to £1337.92. A British Blue cow weighing 738kg sold for £1158.66 from D Jones Broadway. A Friesian heifer under 48months of age weighing 698kg sold for £1221.50 from E E Powell & Son Cilpentre. GM & PE Jones Maesderw receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. We will be holding a sale for TB Tested over thirty Month cattle from Monday 8th April at 9am in ring 2. FAT CATTLE (10)

Ten Fat Cattle sold to average 233ppkg for the steers and 241ppkg for the heifers. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach presented four fat Limousin heifers, selling to 269ppkg, 260ppkg, 256ppkg and 250ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold three heifers to 244ppkg, 239ppkg and 230ppkg and a steer to 233ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday commence at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (261) to 216ppkg from G Thomas North Moelygarth. Others to 208ppkg from D G Jones cefnhir Fawr. Average of 179ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (608) to 228ppkg from T D Jones & Co The Bryn. Others to 227ppkg from H M Powell & Son white House. Average of 203ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2805) to 242ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Others to 228ppkg from A S Hopley Kingsleigh Farm. Average of 215ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (1591) to 217ppkg from R E Evans & Son Dinnant. Others to 216ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Average of 202.5ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (618) to 198ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Others to 194ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Average of 182ppkg.

An entry of 354 spring lambs, selling to an overall average of 245.9ppkg

Standards (233) to 273ppkg from R Gittins Henfaes. Others to 271ppkg from Coleg Powys. Average of 244ppkg.

Mediums (70) to 266ppkg from R Gittins Henfaes. Others to 263ppkg from Ben Powell Gilfach y Rhiw. Average of 251ppkg. 

Heavies (9) to 238ppkg from D S Jerman Gwernau. Others to 235ppkg from D Evans & Co Manor Farm. Average of 233ppkg.

Over Weight (2) to 200ppkg from D S Jerman Gwernau.

The Spring Lamb Show and Sale took place at Welshpool on Monday 8th April 2013. Many Thanks to Wynnstay Group Plc, Carrs Billington, Bibby’s Agriculture Rikki Lloyd, Shropshire and Montgomery area Suffolk Club and The British Charollais Sheep Society for kindly sponsoring the event. The Judge was Mr Peter Tomlinson Llanfyllin.

CULL EWE (2256)

An entry of 2256 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £53.79 for the ewes and £79.44 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £123 per head from P R Evans & Son Fachwen. Top price for the cull rams was £160 per head from L E Brymer Griffiths & Co Bryneira. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.

STORE LAMBS

An entry of 250 store lambs achieving an average of 41.25. Theave lambs achieved a top price of £66 from S Lane New Hall. Mixed and Clean lambs achieved top price of £65 from D O Jones & Son Tyddyn. Tup lambs achieved a top price of £40 also from S Lane New Hall. Mixed and tup lambs achieved a top price of 446 from DW & SE Richards Rhallt.

An entry of 130 cade lambs achieved an average of £10 selling to a top of £27 from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands.

EWES & LAMBS

An entry of 120 ewes with lambs at foot. Sufflok as found ewes with twin lambs at foot achieved a top price of £155 from Bronhyddon Farms Ltd.

DAIRY COWS

A catalogue entry of 10 dairy Cows sold today. The trade was steadier that of late. Top price on the day was £2010 for a 2nd calver Pendyffryn Marksman Linda from J R Wilkinson Dyffryn Farm Meifod. Three £rd calver from M R Williams Wern Holdings sold for £1500, £1400 and £1260. Three heifers from T G Phillips & Co Burgedin Farm achieved £1950 £1600 and £1230. Next Catalogue sale of Dairy cows will take place on Monday 22nd April.
