In the same week that we announced Severn Trent is upgrading its pipe network supplying Welshpool’s water, ScottishPower Energy Networks has confirmed a £12 million revamp of the town’s power supply.
The upgrade to the 132,000 Volt substation at Whittington Road, Oswestry will replace the existing electrical infrastructure that has served the Oswestry, Ellesmere, Welshpool and Newtown areas for over 50 years.
The completion of the project is scheduled for the summer of 2015, with 90,000 customers expected to benefit from a “more robust electrical distribution network”.
Mark Sobczak at ScottishPower Energy Networks, said: “This multi-million pound project will ensure the network from Oswestry to Newtown and surrounding areas is modern and robust.”
ScottishPower says it has developed a work programme that will not interrupt supplies to customers during the upgrade.
