The Consultation period for a new joint partnership oversee the planning and delivery of education for local 16-19 years old has been extended.

A partnership between Powys County Council, Coleg Powys and schools, the new Powys 16 – 19 Commissioning Board will be responsible for the planning and commissioning of courses for learners at school sixth forms and at the college.

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “Moving to these new arrangements is an important step in securing sustainable provision and providing the best outcomes for the young people of the county. It will ensure that Powys has a comprehensive and integrated approach to planning and commissioning of 16 - 19 education.

“The proposal is one of the key elements of the council and Coleg Powys’ long-term Post-16 Transformation Strategy, which includes the merger of Coleg Powys with Neath Port Talbot College, and the development of a new secondary and post-16 integrated learning campus in Brecon.

“It is anticipated that the Powys 16 – 19 Commissioning Board will begin its work in July this year after a period of consultation,” he added.

Consultation on the proposals started on April 26 and was due to run until May 31 but has been extended to June 14.

Details about the new system can be found within the “Strategic Framework for Planning and Commissioning Education for 16 – 19 Year Olds in Powys”. The document is available at http://www.powys.gov.uk/index.php?id=4071&L=0
