Welshpool’s burgeoning music scene is about to have its ultimate compliment paid: a compilation album that will be released for Christmas!
The new album may not give Simon Cowell any sleepless nights in the run-up to the much sought-after Festive No. 1 spot, but it is set to become the must-have local stocking filler with it showcasing the best original music from the Welshpool area.
Teller Promotions, the brains behind the massively successful Bockstock and Monty's Big Bash events this summer, is working with the best local bands and solo artists to put together the album in order to raise the profile of local musicians and to underline the thriving new music scene developing within the town.
The promoters’ Ben Picken explained: “We have so much good music in Welshpool that often people are unaware of, so we’re hoping that this CD will help the artists involved gain some great exposure by being a part of a quality release. I’m really excited about the bands we’ve got involved so far. Dai Robs, Chris Cookson, Colour Sunday (right), The Velvet Dukes and Rob Dunsford to name just a few plus some extra surprises to be added to the mix. I truly believe that with the talent involved on this album it won’t be long before we have ourselves some very successful musicians from Welshpool.”
The CD is scheduled for a pre-Christmas release and has already got the local music scene talking.
Singer and song-writer Dai Robs (left) commented: “The musicians involved have spent years learning their instruments and writing songs and it is a great form of support to have Teller Promotions showing faith and helping promote these musicians and the thriving music scene that they have helped create in the town.”
Meanwhile, Dai has followed up the hugely successful launch of his debut album earlier this month by coming up with a unique marketing gimmick. Anyone that buys his album this weekend will go into a draw for him to play a live gig free of charge at an event of their choosing. The album is available for £5 at Get-Connected in Welshpool, or for £6.50 online (including p&p) at
