Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (59)

A seasonal entry of 59 Over thirty Month old cattle sold very well to average 141ppkg overall. The old cows sold to a top price of £1215.00 per head for a Limousin weighing 750kg from EJ & GM Trickey Moat Farm. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold a Limousin cow weighing £1169.28. A Charolais bull weighing 1105kg sold to £1712.75 from ED & ER Davies Marton Hall. EJ & GM Tickey Moat Farm receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (6)

Only six fat cattle sold to average 217ppkg overall. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold a steer to 233ppkg.

J C Evans & Co Belan Newydd sold two fat steers to 229ppkg and 210ppgk and two heifers to 226ppkg and 222ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewydd receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday commence at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (434) to 182ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn. Others to 178ppkg from Ystym Colwyn Farms. Average of 160ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (439) to 196ppkg from CJ Roberts & Son Three Gates. Others to 188ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Average of 172ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (858) to 212ppkg from G Ratcliffe Whixall Hall. Others to 207ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son Belanddu. Average of 195ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (288) to 204ppkg from M Evans Gate Farm. Others to 202ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son Belanddu. Average of 191ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (134) to 201ppkg from Ystym Colwyn Farms. Others to 200ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Average of 182ppkg.

 

SPRING LAMBS (2376)

An entry of 2376 spring lambs, selling to an overall average of 226ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (26) to 216ppkg from E L Evans & Co Green Farm. Average of 216ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (93) to 246ppkg from DL & LE Davies Ty Bach Y Ffordd. Others to 244ppkg from M Tomlins Wigmore. Average of 225ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1036) to 246ppkg from J L Rowlands & Son Lower Garth. Others to 245ppkg from DS & GM Pryce & Sons Coedmawr. Average of 222ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1135) to 240ppkg from J C Evans Caegwyn & R J Roberts Dysefin Farm. Others to 238ppkg from E H Pennie & Son Gwernyychain. Average of 228ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (67) to 236ppkg from H G Ellis & Co Tynywern. Others to 229ppkg from R A Owen Tynewydd. Average of 223ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (1) to 198ppkg from TM & G Rees & Son Cefngwyddil. Average of 198ppkg.

 

CULL EWE (1980)

An entry of 1950 met with a pleasing trade to average £47 for the ewes and £67.50 for the 65 rams on offer. Heavy weight ewes to £126 and numerous pens sold in between £90 and a £100. Rams peaked at £115 with several entries surpassing the £100 mark. All sheep met with keen bidding and more could have been sold to advantage. 

 

STORE LAMBS, COUPLES & CADE LAMBS.  

An entry of 50 store lambs. Theave lambs achieving a top price of £41. Mixed and clean lambs achieved a top price of £37 from Messers Harding & Son Pantygesail. Mixed and tup lambs achieved a top price of £41 from J Parry Esgairweddon. An entry of 550 ewes with lambs achieved an average of £131.81. Top price of £185 was achieved by strong three year old texel ewes with twins lambs at foot, followed close behind at £180 for three year old Suffolk ewes with twin lambs at foot. Top price hoggs with lambs at foot where £170 achieved by Mr Bailey Pensarn.

Sale of Store lambs to commence at 10.30am with couples and cade lambs to follow.

 

COWS AND CALVES

A catalogue entry of 54 cows and calves met with a sound trade once again with a ring full of buyers in attendance. Leading the way was DP & RE Evans Moelygarth with a Limousinx 1st Calver and a Limousin bull calf which made £2350. David had 10 Limousinx 1st calvers in town with limousine calves with 5 losts, over £2000 and all 10 lots, averaging £1977. Presneted by RE & CJ Davies Boycott Hall was a Limousinx 1st Calver with a bull calf which sold for £2220. From the same home was a British BLuex 1st Calver with a Limousin bull calf which made £2150. Six outfits from Boycott Hall averaged £1995. Presented by AP & JE Jenkins Pontyperchyll where four British Bluex 1st Calvers with Limousin calves at foot which sold to a top price of £2100 to average £1892. W I Jones & Sons Cilcwm FAwr sold four Limousinx 2nd calvers with Limousin calves at foot to a top of £2150 to average £1997.50. Presented by N & C Read Brinepits Farm was a Limousin 1st calver with a bull calf which sold for £2010. From GM & DA Hughes Lower Halton Chirk was a Limousinx 1st Calver with a Bull calf which sold for £1800. A British Bluex 1st Calver with a Limousin bull calf from TS & CI Jerman Coed Mawr sold for £1860. A breakdown of all prices achieved where as follows: £2000+ 14 lots, £1800 - £2000 8lots, £1600 - £1800 11 lots, £1400 - £1600 9 lots, £1200 - £1400 6 lots, less than £1200 4 lots.
