Welshpool woman dies in car crash

Police have confirmed that a woman who died in a Cheshire car crash last week was grandmother Jennifer Jones, 65, from the Welshpool area.

Mrs Jones died after her car was involved in a collision on the M56 eastbound carriageway near Hapsford, junction 14, at around 4.10pm last Thursday. There were four other family members in the car.

Mrs Jones was airlifted to the Countess of Chester Hospital where she later died from her injuries. One of the passengers remains in hospital being treated for serious injuries while another three passengers have since been discharged after receiving minor injuries.

Through a police statement, Mrs Jones, a former teacher, was described as a “deeply loved wife, mother, and grandmother, and an active and valued member of the local community”.

Cheshire police are appealing to anyone who may have information relating to the collision or anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them using the 101 number quoting incident number 607 of May 23.
