Welshpool is ready to host its first ever half marathon with 150 runners lining up for the Powis Castle Half Marathon on Sunday.
The route is set over Powis Estate ground and will consist of three sections - the first a flat 1.5mile out and back to the castle, then two following five-mile laps each time looping back past the castle.
“It is a very spectator friendly event, as those watching from the Start/Finish area, which is right by the castle courtyard, will be able to see the runners come past there twice, and then a third time on their way to the finish,” said Organiser Craig Owen.
“There are a number of participants that are running for charities. One character has even decided to run in a swimsuit for a good cause so I hope the weather is OK!”
The run will start promptly at 9:15am, but all runners are to be prepared behind the start line gantry by 9:05am. Positions behind the start line are not allocated so runners are asked to position themselves based on running ability.
Each participant’s race number has a timing chip so they will receive accurate times recorded from when they actually cross the start line to when they finish. It will also be sent to them by text message.
“The route through the deer park and surrounding scenery will make for a fantastic run, hopefully one that everyone will enjoy,” said Craig.
“I am all for encouraging people to embrace health and fitness into their lives and I believe events are a great way to inspire people to challenge themselves.”
