Marathon effort by Tim

Endurance ace Tim Davies ran a brilliant time to win the first Powis Castle Half Marathon this morning, but the town was once again the real winner.

Davies led home a field of 150 runners in a time of one hour, 15 minutes and 38 seconds for the first ever half marathon held in Welshpool, and hopefully it will be the first of many as glorious sunshine brought out an enthusiastic crowd.

The event was well organised by Rhino Pursuits and attracted entries from many residents in the area who had used it as a target to get fit for whilst also raising money for local causes. Becky Lewis brought the ladies home in a time of 1:29:36 while the final runner crossed the line in a time of 3:17:00.

The event started and finished in the shadows of Powis Castle with the course running through the Estate grounds.

It continued a great run of events which kicked off last week with the Welshpool Music Festival and Waterloofest, and carries on next week with the Air Show.
