Three Welshpool residents were recognised with community awards following the Welshpool Mayor Making Service.
Town Clerk Robert Robinson said: “Our first award went to Vaughan Harding who has been expanding the provision of young people’s football in the town.
“He gives a lot of time and effort to organise and take forward the sport to many, many people, including organising other volunteers to make it all work.”
Vaughan was away on holiday and his award was collected by his mother Merle.
A second award went to Les Hughes. “Mr Hughes helps the community in many ways,” said Mr Robinson.
“He takes people to hospital appointments, does shopping for people who cannont drive and collects and cleans the Talking Newspaper tapes every week. He also helps with Meals On Wheels..
“The final award went to Wendy Holder, a lady who works tirelessly for our community including the Hospital League of Friends, Oldford Tenants, Scouts and the Residents Association.
”She also helps with coffee mornings, The Get Going gang, Visually Impaired Group and the Bingo Club.”
An award was also presented to Freddie Murton-Jones, who completed the Mayor’s Challenge, which seeks to encourage young people to complete activities similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
