Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (45)

An entry of 45 over thirty month old cattle sold to average 151ppkg for all animals presented. 143ppkg was achieved for the older cows, 164ppkg for the cows between the age of 48months and 72months, bulls averaged 155ppkg, and steers and heifers under 48months sold to average 150ppkg and 144ppkg respectively. A British Blue cow weighing 758kg sold to a top price on the day of £1311.34 from G H Williams & Son Penrhosmawr. A Limousin cow weighing 690kg from JG & SE Robinson Cefndu sold for £1311.00. An Aberdeen Angus bull weighing 957kg sold for £1492.92 from W C Trow & Sons great Hem. G H Williams & Son Penrhosmawr receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (5)

Only five fat cattle on offer sold to average 250ppkg overall. G Bound & Son Cefnbach sold two heifers to 265ppkg and 261ppkg and a steer to 250ppkg, and E Watkin Tybrith sold two heifers to 230ppkg and 230ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefnbach receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday commence at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. An entry of 1411 Prime Hoggets, sold to an overall average of 162ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (155) to 162ppkg from W & R Beamond Cwmcarnedd. Others to 159ppkg from J K Pugh New House. Average of 153ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (284) to 183ppkg from T G Davies Home Farm. Others to 179ppkg from Owen & Hughes Cwmbadarn. Average of 156ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (208) to 186ppkg from Tenbury Farm Supplies & WL & HA Williams Wynnora. Others to 184ppkg from JR & M Davies Penisarllan. Average of 175ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (172) to 189ppkg from J W Jones Blowty. Others to 188ppkg from J G Ellis & Son Tynewydd. Average of 182ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (33) to 178ppkg from N Kinsey Rowley Farm. Others to 172ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Average of 169ppkg.

 

SPRING LAMBS (2564)

An entry of 2564 spring lambs, selling to an overall average of 228ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (12) to 224ppkg from D A Davies Bryntail. Average of 217ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (287) to 233ppkg from Ystym Colwyn Farms Ltd & T E Rowlands a’i Fab Tyddyn Ddu. Others to 232ppkg from Ystym Colwyn Farms Ltd. Average of 220ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (911) to 277ppkg from CJ & ME Williams Minysarn. Others to 249ppkg from MG & G N Hanselman Knapps Farm. Average of 224ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1190) to 293ppkg from CJ & ME Williams Minysarn. Others to 248ppkg from A J Powell Llwynmawr Mill. Average of 232ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (143) to 247ppkg from H G Ellis & CO Tynywern. Others to 241ppkg from T C Evans Bryncyrch. Average of 229ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (2) to 206ppkg from B L Hamer Upper Brithdir. Average of 204ppkg.

 

CULL EWE (3187)

A storming seasonal entry of 3200 cull sheep met with an exceptional good trade, 1000% clearance rate enjoyed with not even one ewe undersold. All weights, all types, all qualities in keen demand. Several pens in between £95 and £125 and many surpassing the £90 mark. A most promising trade as well for the hill ewes of all breeds and finish.

N Kinsey Rowley Farm sold purebred Texel ewes to £125 whilst W J L Pryce Prenafal sold heavyweight ewes to £116. Overall average of £51 for the ewes. Rams were also keenly contested for, reaching a high of £104 from Evan Davies & Co Red House and averaging £66 overall. Do keep these entries coming, we do value your support.

 

STORE LAMBS, COUPLES & CADE LAMBS.

An increased entry of 530 ewes with lambs at foot, achieving an average of £115. Two year old mule ewes with twin lambs at foot achieved a top price of £188 from D H Owen Ty Gwyn. Strong Texelx Hoggs with single lambs at foot achieved £170, strong Suffolk hoggs with single lambs also achieved £170 from Frank Bailey Sarn Farm.

Sale of Store Lambs to commence at 10.30am with couples to follow.

 

COWS AND CALVES

Another good entry of 64 cows and calves and breeding bulls met with a sound trade being similar to the last few weeks. Leading the way was Dai Lloyd Bedwgwilym with an entry of nine pedigree Limousin cows and calves which sold to a top of 32150. A 2007 born cow with a April born bull calf sold for £2100 with another similar outfit at £2020. Overall the nine averaged £1831. D P Evans Moelygarth sold six Limousinx 1st Calvers with Limousinx calves at foot to a top of £2060 (twice) and went on to average £1895. Humphreys Brothers Moelddiwyd sold a 1st calver with a Limousin bull calf for £1870. ME & MB Roberts Woodleasows sold four British Bluex 1st Calvers with Limousin calves at foot to a top pf £1780 to average £1602. Presented by RE & CJ Davies Boycott Hall were tow Limousinx 1st calvers with Limousinx bull calves which sold for £1950 and £1720. C Carter Moelwylim sold a Limousinx 1st calver with a bull calf for £1980. A Wilodge Vantastic sired bull from BC & JW Evans PEnrhos sold for £4000. A pedigree Bull from J S Vance Winnington sold at £2500 whilst Temeside Handyandy from VAS & SM Corbett The Gorther sold at £2000. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000+ 8 lots, £1800 - £2000 9 lots, £1600 - £1800 6 lots, £1400 - £1600 8 lots, £1200 - £1400 11 lots, £1000 - £1200 13 lots, Less than £1000 3 lots.
