Castle Party details announced

Powis Castle, together with Welshpool Town Council, are hosting another big Summer Event and we are all again invited to attend!

Following the successful events of the last couple of years when thousands have attended, June 22 from 11am-5pm has been confirmed as the date and time for this year’s extravaganza.

And the event will have an Edwardian feel to it as the Castle celebrates the life ofLady Violet, Countess of Powis, who took over management of the gardens in 1911 until her death in 1929.

As well as all the activity and stalls planned, there will be a competition tent on theGreat Lawn with categories for all ages and interests including:

Best dressed teddy bear (any age)

Cut flower arrangement in oasis (any age)

Home made picnic basket (any age)

Decorated cake (max 12”) (any age)

Decorated cup cake (under 12’s)

Picture (painting/drawing) (under 12’s)

Picture (painting/drawing) (13+ adult)

Edwardian garden on a tea tray (max size 18” x 12”) (family)

Due to the high visitor numbers expected, the car park at Powis will be closed and all vehicles will be directed to park in the event field adjacent to Coed-Y-Dinas which is only minutes from the lower Powis garden entrance. A free shuttle coach will be operating continually between  the two sites 10.00am-5.30pm.

ADMISSION

£2 for adults, £1 for children which gives access into the event, the castle and the garden.

THE GARDEN – GREAT LAWN

The great lawn will play host to a selection of food and craft stalls, charity stalls, a small vintage fun fair, a group of Edwardian re-enactors and the competition tent as well as children’s games.

COURTYARD

The Charleston Footwarmers will perform traditional Edwardian music, children will be entertained by Punch and Judy and a Minerva car from 1911 will take centre stage.

CASTLE

The room guides will be dressed in traditional costume and children can get involved with a castle quiz or the Edwardian craft activities in the old kitchen.

INTRO TALKS

Visitors will be able to listen to some 10 minute intro talks about the castle/garden and learn about the important changes that took place at the property during the Edwardian era.

FREE MINI BUS

Will run at regular intervals from Park Lane Gates through the Outer Park to Dairy Square from 11am.
