Police Station will be open - inspector gives assurance

Welshpool Police Station is to be reopened to the public according to the town’s inspector.
He gave the news to the town’s business forum this week.
Anyone visiting the station currently has to speak to a telephonist in the Dyfed Powys Police headquarters in Carmarthen via an intercom system while PCSOs man a van sited on Tesco Car Park.
But Inspector Matthew Scrace told the forum that things were changing.
“Mistakes have been made and having a van at Tesco is ludicrous,” he said. “There will not be a receptionist but while officers are inside the station they will respond to members of the public from now on.
“It has been extremely frustrating for members of the public to see officers inside the station who were unable to respond to their knocks on the door. We are determined to improve accessibility.”
And the inspector also confirmed that police were working with Welshpool Town Council to tackle anti-social behavior in the town and would be presenting a case to Powys County Council for a Designated Public Place Order for identified trouble spots.
He was responding to complaints from the forum of anti-social behaviour in the Puzzle Square area and encouraged traders to continue reporting incidents through the 101 phoneline.
“The problem with a Designated Public Place Order is that you simply move the problem to another area of the town so you can understand Powys Council being reluctant,” he added.
