Councillor condemns bypass talk

 Letters to Powys residents announcing a Welsh Government preferred route for the A458 Buttington to Wollaston Cross Bypass are irresponsible, a county councillor has said.

Residents received a letter from local estate agents saying the Welsh Government has revealed their preferred route and that properties in close proximity could be affected by the scheme.

Councillor Dawn Bailey said: “I have been inundated with calls from concerned residents worried that there has been a new announcement from the Welsh Government about the project.

“The county council has been in touch with the Welsh Government and been told that there are no new developments and none expected. The letter, which is clearly intended to drum up business, gives the impression of a new announcement and has caused considerable concern.

“To send a letter to residents without putting the content into context is irresponsible. It has worried and unsettled people un-necessarily and they should put the record straight,” she said.
