Residents: Be a local tourist this week

28/06/2013 @ 07:51

Local residents are invited to become a tourist in their own town this week when the Be a Local Tourist Week gets underway today (Friday) in Welshpool.

Events will be held every day until July 7 and they will teach residents about what’s literally in their own back yards.

The initiative, now in its fifth year, is backed by organisations across the town including the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway which is offering a £3.50 per person return fare to anyone who lives in Powys for the week.

Christ Church Welshpool, which is undergoing a 10-year restoration journey to breathe new life into the redundant Victorian church, will hold an open day on July 6 with a special one-off access to the ground floor. A number of other historical buildings, including the Cock Pit, will also throw open their doors.

Pick a leaflet from the Tourist Information Office or the Library for more information.
