Welshpool’s big charity day out

28/06/2013 @ 02:51

Welshpool’s bustling summer of events is set to peak on Saturday when the Annual Charity Event is held at Maesydre.

Organisers are hoping to top last year's £6,300 takings, with a bulk of the proceeds to be handed over to The Afghanistan Trust and Healing The Wounds, with other donations going to several local causes.

The event was originally launched as Help For Heroes by a group of former Welshpool military men and their partners and has grown into the town's biggest annual charity bash.

Bands and singers will be playing throughout the day on the school field and Waterloo Rovers Football Club will be supporting the event by staging a mini It’s A Knockout competition.

“There will also be stalls and bouncy castles to keep the children occupied,” said Nicola Davies, one of the organisers.

“The gates open at 1pm and tickets are selling well. They are £6 if bought before the day and £8 on the day. Ticket prices do not include the food.”

Last year’s funds were presented to The Afghanistan Trust, Healing The Wounds, The Renal Unit, Air Ambulance, St Johns, MEDS, Sally’s Shining Star, The MS Society and donations were given to Maesydre School and local athlete Adele Nicoll.

Tickets are available by calling Nicola Davies on 01938 552710, Jean Gannon on 555175 and Julie Rogers on 554188 and will also be available on the gate.

Thankfully the weather forecast is promising: http://www.tvweathergirl.com/?town=welshpool,UK
