Welshpool has unveiled its new £9,500 welcome to visitors to the town.
A civic reception heralded the new ‘Welshpool’ sculpture outside the Tourist Information Centre which has been brought to life based on the drawing of a Welshpool High School student.
Harriet Bates won an initial competition to design the sculpture which was revealed to the public alongside five new flagpoles.
“The total cost is £9,500, of which £4,800 is funded from the Rural Development Fund,” said a town council spokesperson. “This is part of a number of projects to spruce up the town and provide more facilities including two new playgrounds at Brookfield Road and the new Corfields Country Park at The Flash.”
