Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (47)

An entry of 47 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold to average 151.5 ppkg for the older cows, 173.62 ppkg for the bulls and 161.73 ppkg for the heifers under 48 months. A Limousin cow weighing 832 kg achieved a top price of £1730.56 from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern Yr Ychain; another Limousin cow from the same vendor weighing 735 kg achieved £1198.05. JA Wood & Sons, Kinnerton Farm sold a younger Limousin cow weighing 782 kg for £1517.08. EH Pennie & Son, Gwern Yr Ychain receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. More cows are required to fulfill this outstanding demand. Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (10) to 188 ppkg from LM Etheridge, Penfoel Farm. Others to 178 ppkg from MG Bound T/A F Bound, Pentre Uchaf. Average of 175 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (5) to 172 ppkg from A Gardner & Sons, Neuadd Goch. Others to 149 ppkg from AC Thomas, Middle Gwernerin. Average of 153.35 ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (7) to 179 ppkg from DA Davies, Bryntail. Others to 165 ppkg from MG Bound T/A F Bound, Pentre Uchaf. Average of 169.85 ppkg.

An entry of 3811 Prime lambs, sold to an overall average of 226.01 ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (1) to 217 ppkg from W Griffiths, Nant Yr Henfaes.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (366) to 228 ppkg from TR Savaage & Son, Glanfeinion. Others to 227 ppkg from M Davies, Caerafon. Average of 218.89 ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1275) to 245 ppkg from S Esselmont, Brynhyfryd. Others to 242 ppkg from M Davies, Caerafon. Average of 224.78 ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1985) to 242 ppkg from GTW Andrew, Bwlch. Others to 241 ppkg from RE Evans & Son, Dinnant. Average of 227.78 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (140) to 239 ppkg from G & S Jones, Bryneithin. Others to 238 ppkg from TD & EM Davies, Neuadd Hendidley. Average of 229.75 ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (3) to 217ppkg from AG & JK Davies, Upper Esgair and Fachwen Farms, Tregynon. Average of 216.48 ppkg.

CULL EWE (2410)

An entry of 2410 met with a increased trade to an average £52 for the ewes and £65.86 for the rams. Ewes topped at £118 per head from CE Pryce, Yr Helyg, other to £99 from MJ Davies, Yr Hafon. Rams topped the sale at £120 per head from CE Pryce, Yr Helyg. Weekly sale of Cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat Lambs at approx 12 noon.  

COUPLES

A seasonal entry of couples on 1^st July, maintaining a good demand with prime lamb trade giving purchasers confidence. Top price for ewes and lambs was £168 for 3 year old ewes with twins from EJ Lewis, Rhoslas. Hoggs and lambs sold to £150 for Suffolk X hoggs from J Pope, Old Gritt Farm.

Overall average for couples was £141 per couple.

More couples next Monday; sales of breeding ewes through the sale ring, will start Monday 29^th July.

DAIRY COWS
A catalogue entry of 11 Dairy cattle seen an average of £1746 for heifers and £1444 for cows. An entry of two Pedigree Holstein Friesian Heifers from Lewis Bros, Green Hall both achieved £1900. Two Holstein Friesian Heifers from WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden made £1860 and £1830. Two second calving Pedigree Holstein Friesian Cows from RN Thompson, Oak Green Farm made £1600 and £1530.

Next sale of Dairy cows will take place on Monday 15^th July 2013.
